In this tutorial, you will learn our tips and best practices for working with minky in an embroidery design. Basically, you will follow the same steps as a standard appliqué, however, before running any decorative embroidery over furry materials (like minky), we suggest that you tape down a layer of water soluble topper that extends over the entire design. When you are trying to decide to use topper or not, just take a close look at the material in question. Is it flat-woven? Or is there a pile on either side? If the answer is that there is a pile, or shag to it, then you will want to place topper before running the decorative embroidery. This way, the stitches wont get lost or shift beneath the pile. Stitch any of these happy little animals using minky, or any other type of fabric onto a baby blanket or maybe even a child’s robe! These designs are compatible with materials other than minky, so feel free to get creative!
