A Journey of Continued Growth and Inspiration
After over 30 years of digitizing, you might think I have it all figured out. But honestly, every project keeps me excited, curious, and always eager to find new ways to create stunning designs. I began teaching my first digitizing class at an ISS show back in 1996—more than two decades ago—and while some fundamentals remain the same, how I approach design and my creative process has evolved dramatically.

why is digitizing both artistic and technical?
Digitizing combines artistic vision with technical skill. You start with artwork—be it a sketch, clipart, or a logo—and then use specialized software to assign stitches, controlling their type, direction, and order. The stitches then bring your artwork to life on fabric, transforming 2D images into textured, three-dimensional embroidery.
This is about more than software
While mechanics—software settings, stitch types, and technical details—are important, they only serve as tools. Without a clear approach and understanding of your design’s purpose, frustration and disappointment can easily take over.
This is where *The Art of Digitizing* comes in.
It’s an inside look at how I make those crucial decisions and navigate every project with confidence. Whether you’re just starting out or looking to refine your skills, this journey is about empowering you to approach each design with purpose, creativity, and confidence. Remember, every stitch is a step toward mastering your craft, and every project is a chance to inspire yourself and others. Let’s begin this exciting adventure together!
