The journey begins with a vintage fabric background — a 1950s seed bag, worn and mended with character that only age can lend. I deconstructed the bag, infused it with intricate tonal embroidery, running stitches of varying thicknesses, motifs, and decorative touches that bring it to life. Frayed edges and mounting on a sturdy backing give it a raw, yet refined look, setting the stage for the main event: the majestic bull.

The techniques used in creating this remarkable background are detailed in my Artful Embroidery book — a must-have for anyone eager to learn about framing and mounting these stunning pieces.

The centerpiece, the bull, is a marvel of embroidery and design — stitched by hand, trimmed meticulously, then layered with overlapping pieces to achieve captivating dimension. Measuring just 12”x12” at its smallest, it’s a statement piece that commands attention. Due to its size, it requires a large hoop, roughly 7.8” x 12”, or a compatible embroidery machine setup. The components are mounted on custom-cut acrylic or cardboard, and included SVG files make laser cutting or machine cutting a breeze.

Overall, the finished artwork measures approximately 16”x16”, perfect for a shadowbox frame or display case, ensuring this piece truly stands out as a showstopper.
